If you’ve had too many bad hair days when you just hid all your locks under a baseball cap or piled it on top of your head on a haphazard knot, you might not be taking proper steps to care for your mane. This may be a cliché but a woman’s hair is her crowning glory so she needs to take steps to maintain its proper health. Fortunately, there are many tips that you can follow in order to maintain the moisture, shine and strength of the individual strands of your hair – which we will learn more about here.

Follow this 5-Step Hair Care Plan

Basically, there’s a five-step hair care plan that you can follow in order to retain the beauty and shine of your hair. Take a look at the following list:

  1. Brush your hair.

When preparing to go out, after drying your hair and before turning in at night, it is a must to brush your hair. When you’re brushing out the tangles out of hair that’s just out of the shower, make sure to use wide-toothed comb. Hair strands are more prone to breakage when wet, so it is best to use a wide-toothed comb. Better yet, simply run your fingers through the strands of your hair to get rid of the tangles and let it air dry or use a blow-dryer before running a comb or brush through it. Brushing your hair keeps it tangle-free and it helps distribute natural oils throughout the individual strands, thus promoting hair growth and shine.

  1. Keep your locks clean.

The rule to follow in washing your hair is that the frequency should be based on the type of hair that you have. Let’s say that you have dry or coarse hair which feels brittle to the touch. It’s best to wash your hair every two or three days – doing it everyday might damage your already brittle hair further. Those who have fine or oily hair might need to do daily washings, while those with normal hair can wash their locks every other day.

It is also important to use a shampoo formulation that’s suited for your hair type. Those with oily hair can use a clear shampoo which is not to creamy in consistency. Hydrating shampoos are best for those with coarse or dry hair, while those with normal hair can use just about any type of shampoo. Don’t forget to apply some conditioner to add moisture to your hair after washing, especially if you are using a clarifying shampoo.

  1. Apply hair styling and hair care products.

Next, apply a hair styling product which can come in the following formula: mousse, leave-on conditioner, hair spray, gel, frizz remover, etc. Just remember that these products leave by-products on your hair which can damage the strands, so only use them as necessary.

  1. Style your hair.

After applying a hair styling/hair care product, style your hair as desired. There are some who have a wash-and-wear haircut where they simply comb their hair after drying. This is most convenient for moms who are always in a rush to go about their day. Those who have more time on their hands can use heating elements like a curler or a hair straightener to style their hair.

  1. Give your hair some more care before turning in at night.

Finally, make sure to give your hair some tender loving care before turning in at night. Sleep on a silk pillowcase to prevent the strands from being damaged. Brush your hair before lying down and those who have long hair can secure their locks with a soft ponytail to prevent it from getting snagged at night.

With this 5-step hair care plan, you can maintain the shine, lustre and health of your beautiful locks.
