When you have severely damaged hair, it can look awful. Damaged hair can be dry, frizzy, and the ends can break off.

Damage can be cause by:

-Over processing by bleaching

-Perming
-Chemically straightening your hair.

Another cause of severe damage is over styling with hot tools such as a curling iron or a flat iron.

Washing Your Hair

Washing your hair the correct way can begin to repair the damage that you have done to your hair. You should only wash your hair every other day. Washing everyday can remove your hair’s natural oils, and can cause it to dry out.

When you wash your hair, you should always use more conditioner than shampoo, and focus on the ends when conditioning. If possible, allow the conditioner to sit in your hair for five minutes.

Brushing Your Hair

When brushing wet hair, you should always use a comb. If there are tangles, do not rip them out. You should gently comb out the tangles, while holding the tangled area by the root. If you took a shower before bed, it is a good idea to sleep with your hair in a braid or a bun to prevent damaging your hair while you are sleeping.

Drying Your Hair

When drying your hair, it is best to let it air dry. If you must use a hair dryer, you should use it on the coolest setting. The heat from the dryer will only add to the damage that you have already caused.

Coloring Your Hair

When your hair is damaged, the last thing that you want to do is use the same products which caused the damage in the first place. If you must color your hair, stick to temporary hair colors if possible. They are much more gentle than permanent dye. If temporary dye won’t work for you, and you choose to use permanent dye, choose a hair dye without ammonia, and other damaging components.

Styling

When styling your hair, try to avoid curling irons, or flat irons. These will make the damage worse. If you want to add curls to your hair, try using rollers before going to bed, or hot rollers which are heated by steam. These rollers are much more safe than a curling iron. If it is necessary, change your hairstyle for a while, while trying to get your hair back to healthy.

Products

When choosing a shampoo and conditioner, try one that is made for damaged hair. Try to avoid too much hair spray and mousse. If you must use them, find a gentle formula which is alcohol free. It is also a good idea to use a leave in conditioner or deep conditioner often.

Trying our haircare rehab for damaged hair tips is a great way to bring your hair back to life.
