The hybrid cosmetology program at Avenue Five Institute combines flexible online learning with on-campus training. Students will learn foundational techniques in hair cutting, coloring, skincare, and makeup application while also developing professional business skills crucial to success in the beauty industry.

By completing coursework through a hybrid cosmetology school and gaining practical experience in a salon environment, students are prepared for licensure and a variety of career paths. Whether pursuing a role in a salon, freelance work, or other beauty services, graduates are equipped with the necessary skills to thrive as licensed cosmetologists.

Avenue Five Institute’s 1000-hour Hybrid Cosmetology Program is the modern answer to beauty education. Our collaborative hybrid learning environment offers added convenience and accessibility while still providing critically important hands-on training, practical salon experience, and industry support it takes to pursue a successful beauty career. With hybrid learning, you have the opportunity to train from home for a portion of the program. Without the hassle of commuting, hybrid learning can save students both time and money. Plus, you can graduate and begin your new career in less than 9 months!

Choose from one of Avenue Five Institute’s flexible YourTime™ Schedules and find the perfect time to learn. With a combination of on-campus and distance learning, our schedules allow you to balance your education with your other commitments.

Students are scheduled to attend 4 hours on-campus each day, Monday through Friday, while completing 10 hours of distance learning each week. Our flexible schedules are designed to help you avoid peak traffic hours and provide the freedom to pursue your new career, all while graduating in less than a year*!

Taught by experienced educators, Avenue Five Institute’s hybrid learning environment allows students to combine interactive online curriculum covering cosmetology theory and techniques with practical experience in a simulated salon environment, working under the supervision of a skilled instructor.  

Learn the fundamental hair cutting and styling techniques, including precision cuts, layering, and texturizing—practice using various tools and methods to create modern and classic styles tailored to client needs and preferences.

Learn hair coloring techniques like highlights, balayage, and full-color application with our Wella Signature School partnership. Work with top Wella products and get extra training through the Wella Ed App and on-campus sessions, keeping you updated on the latest trends and ensuring vibrant, healthy results.

Explore the anatomy of the skin, hair, and nails, along with basic principles of chemistry and biology as they apply to beauty treatments. This knowledge forms the foundation for safe and effective practice in all beauty services.

Develop skills in applying makeup for various occasions, including day-to-day wear, special events, and theatrical productions. Study facial features and skin types to create looks that complement individual characteristics and trends.

Master the techniques for chemical treatments, including hair relaxing and smoothing. Learn how to safely apply and process chemicals to alter hair texture, ensuring desired outcomes while minimizing damage.

Yes, the cosmetology program is accredited by the National Accrediting Commission of Career Arts & Sciences.

Students can graduate in less than 9 months with proper attendance. Cosmetology students must complete 1000 hours of training in a licensed cosmetology school to be eligible for a license in Texas. This includes both classroom instruction and hands-on practice. The hours are measured as clock hours and reflect the actual time a student spends directly participating in educational activities, which is different from a credit hour which is tied to coursework over a semester or term.

Yes, business training is included in the curriculum and covers areas of marketing, professionalism, and Texas state rules and laws.

The curriculum is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of both theory and practical skills in various aspects of beauty and wellness. It includes anatomy and physiology, focusing on the skin, scalp, hair, and nails, along with their respective diseases and disorders. Students will delve into the chemistry behind hair coloring, chemical waving, and relaxing, as well as bacteriology, sterilization, sanitation, health, safety, first aid, and relevant laws and rules. The use of tools and equipment is covered, alongside hair care, skin care, hair removal, and nail care theories. Business skills and marketing are also key components, preparing students for potential entrepreneurship in the beauty industry.

Practical skills are emphasized with training in electricity, haircutting, hairstyling, hair and scalp treatments, and scalp massage. Techniques in hair weaving, extensions, chemical textures, and applications are taught. The curriculum also includes face and neck massage and treatments, facial hair removal, manicuring, waxing and removing body hair, focusing on customer service and professional ethics. Makeup application, pedicuring, and artificial nails are covered to ensure graduates are well-rounded and prepared for their state board exam.
